Support for Fred's medical costs - WAGS Retired Police Dog
Support for Fred's medical costs - WAGS Retired Police Dog
Story
WAGS Retired Police Dogs are holding a fundraiser to raise money for veterinary fees for Retired Police Dog Fred.
Fred retired from Avon and Somerset in 2020, where he served as a drugs, cash and firearms recovery dog. He has been living an incredible retirement with his handler, Louise, and her family, however he has sadly become poorly.
In May Fred’s family noticed he has a lack of appetite, inflamed joints, and weight loss. He was taken to the vets and after a week of no improvement, an investigation began. Fred has had multiple blood tests, scans and was referred to a specialist vet for further assistance. Unfortunately, the results remain inconclusive, and Fred it being kept comfortable using medication. This is an incredibly scary time for Fred’s family and the cost of vet bills is not helping. At present, the total fee for the bill stands at £4043.98, and so we are holding this fundraiser to help cover these fees, to help support Fred and this family in their very difficult time.
Retired Police Dog Fred initially joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary from the Bristol Dogs Home as a puppy and went on to have a fantastic career. He worked with multiple handlers and spent his last year of service with Louise. On his first operational shift with Louise, Fred sniffed out £72,000 cash concealed in the lining of a vehicle. This is just one example of the amazing work Fred completed whilst serving.
Fred has had an incredible retirement. Since leaving the Force Fred became a Pets as Therapy Dog and continued to serve his community, just in a different way. He is a very special dog and is loved dearly by all that know him.
